Frustrated and rejected author David Lassman wondered whether or not publishers can recognize good literature when they actually receive it in the mail. So he typed up and sent off the opening chapters of three novels by Jane Austen. Apparently, only one of the eighteen recipients recognized the submissions for what they were.
John B. Judis and Ruy Teixeira have published a lengthy update of their thesis that demographic trends of various sorts favor the Democrats. The book is several years old, but it contains a lot of interesting political history that isn't to be found in the updates that Judis and Teixeira periodically publish.
